Destination
With its diverse geography and rock types, Sardinia is becoming one of the hotspots of climbing around Europe. Climbing is widely developed all around the island from single-pitch trad routes on granite to multi-pitches starting at the sea on orange limestone walls.
We are offering our courses on the sport climbing center of the island: Ulassai.
It has a growing vibrant international climbing community in the town which is surrounded by steep walls all around it. There are over 1000 routes that are 10 to 60 minutes away by foot from the town center.
With this trip, we are offering:
- having a good time away from the city and the routine. We believe that the most successful climber is the one who is having the best time
- improving your skills and technique through practicing in a new environment and with our clinics
- making progress on your fears and insecurities with guidance and being able to enjoy climbing more
- getting to know a new culture
ARRIVAL, Accommodation & Food
Sardinia is very well connected to Europe with cheap flights and ferry options. You can fly to Sardinia (Cagliari, Olbia, Alghero) or catch a ferry to Olbia or Porto Torres from different points of Italy, France or Spain. You can rent a car and drive to Ulassai (2-4 hours). If you are going to come with public transport you should fly to Cagliari. There’s a train every 20 minutes from Cagliari airport to Cagliari bus station, from there you can take a bus 8€ (3hrs 15mins) to Ulassai. The fastest bus (no changes) leaves at 14.00. There are other times but it will take longer and you’ll have to change.
The town of Ulassai has variety of accomodations available like Airbnbs, a campsite and climbers hostals. One of our goals is to integrate you into the local climbing communities and make you experience the life style, for these purposes, we recommend places run by local climbers. Outside temperatures at night can differ between -3 and 10 C, we recommend bringing a warm sleeping bag.
Drinking water is available at the springs in the town and there are shops for food. The climbers hostal provide refrigerators, fully equipped kitchens and drinking water. Campsite has gas and burners for cooking. There is the possibility to eat out in the town as well.
Details of the Trip
We offer a 7-day long trip for group sizes between 4-8 people. We recommend arriving to Ulassai on Friday, one day before the course starts. On the first night, we will meet, cook together, get to know each other.
Next two days we will climb on different walls and get ourselves orientated with the new rock and climbing style. We will learn or repeat some rope management skills or movement techniques depending on the group’s need and we will work on routes together.
We will have two rest days under the week, so your body and fingers can recover. On a rest day, our favorite thing to do is to go down to the sea.
Now since we are a bit more used to this rock and rested. Following days we will work on your lead climbing and can do some specific workshops around our chosen routes such as; overhang/crack climbing techniques and fear of falling, projecting mentality, or how to bail in the middle of a route…
This is a rough idea about the trip. Actually, since the expectations and needs of each group are different, each trip is different. There is not a cookie-cutter lesson plan. We are always asking what you want to do and trying to understand what you need for a fulfilling experience.
Course Content
In our climbing trip, you will learn how to climb and belay in lead. You will get to know different types of anchors, how to put your own top rope up and how to clean the route when you are done. We will exercise how to fall and catch falls in a safe and comfortable way. Of course, we also include climbing techniques for real rock and how to approach a route on your climbing limits when you are interested in pushing your limits. You will be able to read a topo and find the perfect routes for your level. As in all of our courses, safety and fun are our highest priority and you will decide for yourself how far you want to go.
