Destination

Geyikbayırı is a valley located 40 km away from Antalya Airport which is connected to many European cities with direct flights. Due to its mild temperatures and good quality rock, it is one of the world’s best climbing spots in Winter.

With its gorgeous colorful limestone walls, Geyikbayırı offers a variety of climbing that is suitable for all skill levels.

It has a vibrant international climbing community accommodating at the campsites in the valley. There are over 1000 routes that are 2 to 30 minutes away by foot from the campsites.

With this trip we are offering:

  • having a good time away from the city and the routine. We believe that the most successful climber is the one who is having the best time
  • improving your skills and technique through practicing in a new environment and with our clinics
  • making progress on your fears and insecurities with guidance and being able to enjoy climbing more
  • getting to know a new culture and Turkish cuisine
  • discovering the rich history of the region and visiting some of the most well-kept Roman ruins
  • bathing in a Hamam and getting rid of all our hard earned climbing skin and going back to having a newborn skin

Accommodation & Food

Our main goal is to integrate you into the local climbing communities and for these purposes, we use local climbing campsites or places run by local climbers. You can choose between a bungalow, a rental tent or your personal tent. Outside temperatures at night can differ between -3 and 10 C, so even though there is blankets and heaters in the bungalows, we recommend bringing a warm sleeping bag.

After arrival, an airport shuttle will bring you to a large supermarket we recommend you do your food shopping for the whole week. It is possible to go shopping in the town on a free day but only by taxi. Campsites provide refrigerators, fully equipped kitchens and drinking water. There is the possibility to eat out in the valley at two restaurants or at the food truck.

Details of the Trip

We offer a 7-day long trip for group sizes between 4-8 people. We recommend flying into Antalya on Friday, one day before the course starts. On the first night, we will meet, cook together, get to know each other.

Next two days we will climb on different walls and get ourselves orientated with the new rock and climbing style. We will learn or repeat some rope management skills or movement techniques depending on the group’s need and we will work on routes together.

We will have two rest days under the week, so your body and fingers can recover. On a rest day, our favorite thing to do is to go down to the town have a huge and long Turkish breakfast and drink as much black tea as possible. On the rest day, we have options of;

  • visiting the great ancient ruins of Thermesos or Perge
  • hiking up the nearby mountain to see the other ruins of Trebenna
  • go down to the city for shopping and swimming
  • or if you are really motivated,
  • drive up the mountain for skiing 🙂
(Please note that, for some of these rest day activities, a car/taxi is needed. You might want to rent a car from the airport on your arrival.)

Now since we are a bit more used to this rock and probably rested. Following days we will work on your lead climbing and can do some specific workshops around our chosen routes such as; overhang/tufa climbing techniques and knee baring, fear of falling, projecting mentality, or how to bail in the middle of a route…

This is a rough idea about the trip. Actually, since the expectations and needs of each group are different, each trip is different. There is not a cookie-cutter lesson plan. We are always asking what you want to do and trying to understand what you need for a fulfilling experience.

One thing that we suggest strongly, is to go to a Hamam before we go home, where you will be scrubbed with a sponge by an old lady, removing your old skin and making you feel like a new person 🙂

Course Content

In our climbing trip, you will learn how to climb and belay in lead. You will get to know different types of anchors, how to put your own top rope up and how to clean the route when you are done. We will exercise how to fall and catch falls in a safe and comfortable way. Of course, we also include climbing techniques for real rock and how to approach a route on your climbing limits when you are interested in pushing your limits. You will be able to read a topo and find the perfect routes for your level. As in all of our courses, safety and fun are our highest priority and you will decide for yourself how far you want to go.

Easy and simple: just amazing. After doing a couple of indoor courses with Umut in Vienna, I finally decided to also sign up for one the outdoor courses too. The focus of this course was practicing lead climbing in the outdoors, refine one’s belaying skills, gather knowledge and confidence in the climbing scene and finally, get familiar with climbing outside a gym. I did course with both Maren and Umut and I must say that they are just amazing teachers. They transmit a strong sense of security and calmness, which I think is very important to learn a sport like climbing, which can get pretty overwhelming at times, due to the amount of knowledge to learn and put into practice. Maren and Umut really make you believe in yourself and your capabilities, even when you most doubt about them. They made me get hooked with climbing in the very first place and with this course they made me fall in love with the outdoors environment too. Long story shorts, I can’t wait to book another course with them and to refine my climbing skills further and further. A really really big thank you to both Maren and Umut for just being so amazing!!!

Probably the nicest, coolest, and best couple you can find for your climbing adventure! The climbing journey in Geyikbairi was for sure one of the best experiences in my life. Stunning views, terrific moments and extraordinary places I would have never discovered on my own! With Umut as a local it was a big advantage to visit traditional Turkish places, such as the weekly bazaar and local restaurants around although everyone we met was so nice and friendly 🙂 I learned a lot during this week - technically and mentally. Maren & Umut are great teachers! I can’t wait to go back next year. Highly highly recommend any experience with Norika Rocks 😊

We are very lucky to find this course that perfectly fits our needs. The course has certain “topics” that you can pick whatever is best for you so it’s tailored for your level of climbing knowledge. The topics have a very wide spectrum. You can deepen beginner topics such as gear handling, procedures. And you can also learn how to build a mindset to increase the longevity of your climbing journey. Yet the depth of each topic is not compromised, you can learn a lot from this course. The schedule is intense and well arranged. In the end you can become an independent climber and get to know the local community. It’s not only a climbing camp but also a good introduction to very well established climbing sites, if you are new to Turkey, you can even learn some of its culture. We would like to recommend this course if you are an indoor climber and would like to know how to start your outdoor climbing journey.

Maren und Umut are amazing climbing instructors that I can wholeheartedly recommend! They are patient, encouraging and fun. Climbing with them feels like hanging out with (very knowledgable) friends, they absolutely love this sport and make you feel the same way. As an anxious climber I always felt 100% safe and they were great cheerleaders.

I did both indoor and outdoor course with Umut and Maren, and it was the best! I really loved the spring outdoor course in Geyikbayiri, Turkey. It was very well structured, and in a week I went from 0 outdoor climbing experience to self-sufficient rock climber. We stayed for a bit longer after the course and lead climbed outdoors on our own, so it was a huge success. Most importantly, they really helped me with my struggles with overhang and showed me, how to climb them efficiently, so now I really enjoy them 🙂

We took their beginners climbing course in Geykbairi in February 2023. The experience was amazing. We learned all the skills to be able to climb independently, and the climbing area was really worth the travel. I haven’t seen such a beautiful rock with so much variety since. And the community we spent time in was also super nice. We have already scheduled another trip to Geykbairi, this time at our own 🙂

Absolute Weiterempfehlung!!!
